0 This renovation on the iconic Eastern Head in Knysna was a superb design by Xeno-Urban Architects, the property sits on an exceptionally steep slope, steeper than a legal staircase, that resulted in endless architectural and engineering challenges.
Building on Eastern Head is no simple task. The terrain demanded innovative thinking, especially as several existing structures had to be carefully adapted and incorporated into the new vision. Rather than working against the slope, the architects embraced it. The result, a striking terraced exterior that cascades down the mountainside, maximizing views over the Knysna Lagoon while creating layered outdoor living spaces. It’s a real feat of design and construction, proof that with creativity and expertise, even the most challenging sites can become architectural showpieces.
From a photography perspective, this home offered endless opportunities. The interplay between concrete, glass and natural elements, combined with Knysna’s ever-changing coastal light, created dynamic compositions throughout the day.
We’re especially proud that this project was published in the February issue of SA Home Owner, featuring several of our images. Seeing a project in print is always a proud moment and thankful to be able to work with the excellent team at Xeno-Urban Architects.
